About Ujjain
It is the fifth-largest city in Madhya Pradesh by population and is the administrative centre of Ujjain district and Ujjain division. It is one of the Hindu pilgrimage centres of SaptaPuri famous for the KumbhMela held there every 12 years.The famous temple of MahakaleshwarJyotirlinga is located in the center of the city. The city has been one of the most prominent trade and political centres of Indian Subcontinent from the time of Ancient Mahajanapadas up until the British Colonization of India.
According to Puranic legend, Ujjain, along with Haridwar, Nashik, and Prayag, is one of four sites where drops of amrita,the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from a kumbha (pitcher) while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda during the SamudraManthana, or the churning of the ocean of milk. Ujjain has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under Prime Minister NarendraModi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.

About The Venue – The Kalidas Sanskrit Akademi
Setting and Layout
The Akademi is situated in its own campus with a beautiful natural pond. The total area of land is 3374 hectares. The Akademi has got its own buildings within the premises in the year 1983. The well known architect Smt. Hema Sankalia has designed it with a rare insight and imagination.
In the year 1995, the new building has also been constructed and handed over to the Akademi. The Akademi building ‘NAVAMSHA’ combines the serenity of an ‘Ashrama’ with the functional utility of a modern edifice, a brick and sloping roof affair.
The rooms of Akademi named after the works of Mahakavi Kalidasa and the infrastructures of the building is as bellow:
- Kumarasambhavam – Director’s Chamber
- Vikramorvashiyam – Office, Computer Room
- Abhijnanashakuntalam – Exhibition Hall
- Raghuvansham – Seminar and lecture hall
- Malavikagnimitram – Library of audio and video cassettes and books chambers of Deputy

The physical environment of this building has been meticulously planed with a view to recreate a particular kind of atmosphere. The trees such as Ashoka, Amra, Kadamba, Bakula, Panasa and other such varieties which are found in Kalidasa’s literature have been planted with a view to keep Ashram tradition. The Akademi established in the year 1978 and mode its humble beginning in the year 1979.
